How Do I Install It?
Fill out the brief download form and you will be emailed a link to download the install. Once you've received the email and downloaded the file, launch it. The installation should be self-explanatory as long as you don't run into any of the errors listed in the troubleshooting section.
If you already have it installed and you're looking for a newer version, do that from within the MileTracker application under the Help menu.
Installation/Initial Launch Troubleshooting
Error: Component 'MileTrackerCore.dll' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid
This used to be a trivial problem to fix but due to a legal battle between Microsoft and Sun Microsystems, it has become more complicated. Details can be found in the Microsoft Knowledge Base article titled "Availability of Current Build of Microsoft VM", but here is a simplied version. You are doing this at your own risk. Please read the Knowledge Base article above, especially if you're running Windows 2000. Here is a simplied version depending on the version of Windows that you're using:
- Windows 98, Windows Me, or Windows XP
- Download and install the Microsoft Java VM version 3805 (~5.2 MB).
- This should be sufficient for MileTracker to now run, but there are some critical bugs that Microsoft has since fixed. In order to get the update (probably to version 3810) go to Windows Update, scan for updates, and make sure to get any critical updates that it suggests.
- Windows 2000 SP2 or SP3

- Windows 2000 SP4. You may be out of luck. The detailed steps for doing this are beyond the scope of this document so I highly discourage doing it, but it would probably require:
- Rolling back to SP2 or SP3.
- Following the steps for Windows 2000 SP2 or SP3 above.
- Re-installing SP4.
- Windows NT or Windows Server 2003. I'm honestly not sure what you'll have to do.
Error: DllRegisterServer in MileTrackerCore.dll failed
See the solution above.
Error: Component 'msjava.dll' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid
See the solution above.
Error: A required .DLL, MSVBVM60.DLL, was not found
You will have to install the Visual Basic 6.0 run-time files (~1 MB) from Microsoft. Download and install them and then relaunch MileTracker.
How Do I Use It?
- Create users and setup their usernames and passwords for different programs by clicking on the "Users & Accounts..." button or by clicking the same titled menu item under the Setup menu.
- Click the "Check All" button to update your information for every program or click on the appropriate "Check" link in the "Single Check" column if you'd like to update one program quickly.
- Click the "View" link in the "Details & Chart" column if you'd like to view specific details and/or a chart of a specific program. Please note that recent transactions are currently only tracked for American and Delta. Also note that the point history only tracks the history as MileTracker as seen it since you've installed it. You can also view the distribution amongst your programs by clicking the "View" link in the "Total" row.
- Click the "Navigate" link in the "Auto Navigate" column if you would like the application to open Internet Explorer and then automatically login and navigate into your account for you. Just click the link and watch as it automatically does the monotonous typing, clicking, and waiting for you.
- That should really cover most of the basic features. I hope that it's obvious how to do most things, but I will work on updating this documentation as time allows.
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Very limited, but I'll add more as time allows.
How do I backup my data?
You can backup your data in 2 ways. The first is to simply use the "Backup Users, Accounts, & Settings" menu item under the Backup menu. Note that this will not backup the histories of your balances. Until I have the opportunity to add that functionality, I suggest the following steps for backing up your data:
- Make sure that MileTracker is not running.
- Copy the MileTracker.settings and MileTracker.history file from MileTracker's directory (?) to another folder on your computer.
- You can rename the files if you'd like to, such as adding the date of the backup.
How do I restore my data that I backed up?
There is currently nothing in MileTracker that automates this process, but it's very easy to do using the following steps:
- Make sure that MileTracker is not running.
- If there is already a MileTracker.settings file in your MileTracker directory (?), rename it. You can also delete it, but I recommend against that until you make sure that you've successfully restored your data.
- Locate your backup file and copy it into your MileTracker directory.
- Rename the backup file that you copied to MileTracker.settings.
- If you also backed up your MileTracker.history file, repeat steps 2-4 substituting MileTracker.history for MileTracker.settings.
- Launch MileTracker.
Where is my MileTracker directory?
For most users, it will be C:\Program Files\MileTracker. If not, you can use the "System Information" menu item under the About menu and look at the line that starts with "Directory:".
What data does MileTracker store on my computer?
MileTracker stores all of its data in 2 simple text files in its directory (?). One file is MileTracker.settings which stores your login and balance information along with options that you've configured. All of the passwords in that file are strongly encrypted. The other file is MileTracker.history which stores a list of your past balances and the time that they changed for each program. Modifying either of these files by hand may cause MileTracker to start functioning erratically or to even stop functioning at all.
Known Bugs

- 1.99 (02/06/04) - Fixed Alitalia, American, Delta (transactions), and E-Poll. Fixed problems with menus causing crash (such as print menu) or performing wrong action. Also note that Continental has recently created a "OnePass Member Advisory" that you will have to view before MileTracker will function properly for Continental again. This can be done by clicking the Navigate in the Auto-Navigate column for Continental. If that doesn't work, try logging into Continental manually.
- 1.985 (12/27/03) - Added recent transactions and some other details to Alaska, Continental, and Southwest (Click View in the Details column after an update to see. This level of information is also available for American and Delta.) Fixed Marriott, Turkish, and Varig. Fixed TripRewards for multiple users. Fixed Alaska for Canadian users.

- 1.96 (08/30/03) - Minor but required changes were made in order to integrate with the new MileTracker website.

- Added Fiesta Rewards, Finnair Plus, Grupo Taca Distancia, Le Meridien Moments, SN Brussels Privilege, Sol Melia MaS, South African Voyager (without auto navigation), and Swiss TravelClub.
- Added auto navigation to Aeromexico and KLM.
- Fixed Air Canada, ClickRewards, Hilton, La Quinta, and Northwest.

- Experimental - Added tracking of balance history along with accompanying line charts which can be viewed in the Details & Chart column.
- Experimental - Added pie charts to view distribution of balances which can be viewed in the Details & Chart column in the Total row.
- Note that the balance history only tracks changes that MileTracker has registered. For example, if your balance changes from 50 to 75 to 200 and MileTracker was not run at any point while the balance was 75, only 50 and 200 will be shown in the history.
- Also note that charts are only available when you are online as they are generated on the MileTracker server.

- 1.7 (04/29/03) - Added AirTran. Fixed Aeroméxico, Air France, Alitalia, America West, American (for multiple users), Best Western, Hawaiian (you will probably have to visit hawaiianair.com manually once in order to update from using a PIN to using a password for their new login requirements), JetBlue (for multiple users), Korean, Six Continents, and Virgin Atlantic.
- 1.6 (03/15/03) - Added Aeroméxico Club Premiere, Air France Fréquence Plus, Emirates Skywards, Eva Air Evergreen Club, JAL Mileage Bank, Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus, and Turkish Airlines Miles & Miles. Updated American Express to handle cardholders that hold cards in multiple countries (in order to take advantage of this, you'll need to make a change in 'Users & Accounts.')
