MileTracker is a small and simple, yet powerful desktop application that allows you to monitor all of your frequent flier accounts.
What Distinguishes it from Similar Services?
There are several other frequent flier mile management services available, but none provide all, if any, of the features below that I feel make MileTracker the most practical:
- Privacy Protection - Since this is a desktop application instead of a website, you can keep your account usernames and passwords private instead of providing them to a third party website. Your usernames and passwords are saved encrypted on your harddrive and are transmitted only to the website with which they are affiliated. No middleman ever sees them so there is no chance for your accounts to be tampered with.
- Real-time Updates - You can update all of your account details exactly when you want and as frequently as you'd like. Most competing services only update their data occasionally. For instance, the most popular competing service updates their data once a week. That may be sufficient for some users, but certainly not all of them.
- Convenience - MileTracker has "Auto Navigate" functionality that will automatically navigate you to each account balance and history. Some alternate services attempt to offer a listing of each account transaction, but they rarely work well as the process is error prone and the information can be difficult to decipher as it is out of context. This feature allows you to easily get that information straight from the source.
- Comprehensive Coverage - MileTracker currently supports 79 different programs (see list below). Odds are very good that all of the programs that you use are covered.
- 100% Uptime - MileTracker runs on your computer, which eliminates the middleman that most competing services act as. If their site is down for maintenance or you're unable to connect to them for other reasons, you're out of luck. There will always be instances where some accounts can't be updated temporarily as they are inaccessible to everyone through any means (for example if Delta's website is down). In those cases, MileTracker will still allow you to update the rest of your accounts and view the prior state of the inaccessible account.
- Available Offline - MileTracker allows you to effortlessly view the status of your accounts from the last time that you ran it. With other mile management services you either have an outdated copy of the information in the form of an email or you have to copy and paste or save the information manually.
- Multiple User Support - MileTracker can manage accounts for as many users as you'd like (such as every account for every member of your family has), all on one screen.
- Spyware-free - MileTracker does not install any "spyware" that transmits information about you and/or your behaviors.
- Free - MileTracker is currently free. In the future, an enhanced version may be made available for a fee, but I promise to try to keep the core functionality free. Donations are however currently accepted through PayPal in order to help me cover the cost of web hosting, software licenses, etc.
Requirements
- Windows 98 or later. Mac and Linux support may be added in the future.
- Internet Explorer (IE) 5.01 or later. You do not have to use Internet Explorer as your regular web browser, but it must be available.
- Microsoft's Java VM must be installed. Most users will already have this installed.
- Cookies must be enabled in Internet Explorer. If you don't know what this means or you've never manually disabled them, you're probably fine. If you need instructions on how to enable them, Microsoft explains how. MileTracker only requires cookies because almost all of the websites that it obtains information from require them.
- JavaScript should be enabled in Internet Explorer. Updating your accounts will still work in MileTracker if JavaScript is disabled, but "Auto Navigation" will not function for many sites.
